Hurricane Katrina! Hurricane Katrina has brought grief and tragedy to not only our neighbors here in Baldwin County but to Mobile County, and the entire Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast region! Our heart goes out to those who lost someone or something in this terrible storm and it's aftermath! We here at the Elsanor Fire Rescue Dept are doing our part to assist our fellow countrymen in their struggle to rebuild what they had and regain some of their independence that they enjoyed before Katrina! Some of the displaced citizens (now our guests) have no place to go for now except shelters! Well we here in Elsanor along with some other local Fire Depts decided to have a Labor Day Cook Out for those guests who were displaced from their homes by Hurricane Katrina! On Labor Day, we went to the Robertsdale Pavilion in Robertsdale's Park and fed over 250 displaced family members. We not only provided food but through phone calls we located several people who wanted to help with some entertainment as well, in the form of a petting zoo for the children some inflatable kids bouncing rooms, clowns with one clown being a magician, a band to provide live music and an old time ice cream maker. I hope that all had a good time, our purpose and idea was that if just one person could take their mind off their tragedy for 1 minute then it was all worth the effort! The look on the children's faces as they watched the magician clown perform tricks, the kids at the petting zoo, the adults watching their children enjoy their selves and the great music provided! The Fire Fighters of Elsanor, Robertsdale and Bon Secour provided the cooking and assistance, and along with a small donation also from the Rosinton fire dept. and donations from throughout the community there was plenty of food with even enough for the volunteers who have been helping with all of out displaced guests here in our community! God bless every one of you! The Elsanor Fire Dept is offering to any of the Fire Depts who lost everything in the way of equipment the donation of our old pumper tanker and our old brush truck! This is the least we thought that we could do to help our fellow Fire Depts who need our help. We have been in contact with several representatives in those disaster areas and we will know something shortly and we will keep you posted! |
