Bids for the construction of the new Elsanor Fire Station were opened after 1:00 pm on 21 April 2009. All the bids that were submitted by the 1:00pm deadline, were opened and the low bidder (Reed Construction from Bay Minette, Al.) was chosen and they will be awarded the contract for the construction of the new Elsanor Fire Station. This new fire station will be constructed on property owned by the Elsanor Fire Department located at the Southwest Corner of Brewer Road and Co. Rd. Hwy 87. The Construction project will start shortly and a time frame will be required for the completion of the new facility. The New Elsanor Fire Department will cost around $800,000 and will incorporate a training classroom, offices, kitchen, 6 drive thru bays for fire apparatus, storage and future expandability. The new Station will be capable of withstanding 140 mph hurricane force winds. This will hopefully ensure our ability to provide help and aid after a disaster that might occur in our community. The Elsanor Fire Department plans on keeping the old existing fire station located on Hwy 90 at the Elsanor Community Center, seeing as it's location near the Elsanor Elementary School is a plus for the safety of our children, not to mention all the other homes in the surrounding area that it will serve. When the new Elsanor Fire Station is completed, we will have an open house so everyone in our community can see and tour. I'm sure that everyone will be happy to welcome this extra bit of safety provision that will be brought to the Elsanor Community |
